SWEDISH MIDSUMMER 2012

Dear friends,

I promised photos of the Swedish Midsummer, and here it comes, faster than I thought! Three happy people with Coffee and Fika, the Swedish term for sandwich.

Below children are decorating the Maypole, many of them wearing flowers on their heads. This is very serious business, this is the way Swedes grow into adulthood!

More flowers in the hair and the first glimpse of the band to the left.

Strong Swedes cary the Maypole and are ready to lift it up high – this is a real highlight of the celebration.

And up it goes, and all of us are sighing in awe. Now we are ready to dance around the Maypole.

The band is very informally dressed and plays Swedish folksongs while the people are dancing and singing around the Maypole.

And now we go closer to real Swedes…….

And here we see two proud Swedes, Jan above and the King of the Forest below….
